Spot the Cruise Ships – May Edition


The great thing about spring and being situated at Canada Place is welcoming all the visiting cruise ships to Vancouver! Being a port city, we’re so fortunate to be ambassadors for visitors from all over the world.
At Canada Place, there are three berths where cruise ships can dock: Canada Place East, Canada Place North and Canada Place West. In the summer, it’s not unusual to see all three births full!

PROMOTION: Sumac Ridge Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot **CLOSED**

Starting in May and running until July, Pan Pacific Vancouver will be supporting Sumac Ridge’s Ride to Conquer Cancer by featuring its Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot in the Oceans 999 restaurant and Coal Harbour Bar.
One dollar from every bottle purchase in the month of May will go to the Support to Ride to Conquer Cancer, benefiting the BC Cancer Foundation.

Taking place on August 27-28, the ride is a unique and challenging 240km journey with riders cycling from Vancouver to Seattle. The money raised will support leading clinicians, scientists, and researchers whose search for new discoveries and improved patient outcomes will have a real impact on our communities, throughout the province and across Canada.
Enjoy a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc or Merlot while supporting cancer research.

Pan Pacific Vancouver Launches New Restaurant and Lounge


Last week, the Pan made quite the splash unveiling our new restaurant and lounge, Oceans 999 and Coal Harbour Bar (previously the Cafe Pacifica and Cascades Lounge)
We invited some of our nearest and dearest for a first-hand look and to sample the “ocean-inspired” menu and special Vancouver-themed cocktails, while checking out some of the best views in the city.
Guests dined on delicious  items such as sliders, Caesar salad with a slide of bacon (in a shot glass!), lobster mac n’ cheese, battered fish n’ chips, calamari, tuna tataki , prawn dynamite rolls, super antioxidant salads and more. And don’t get us started on the desserts!

Faust Plays Dvorak – Orpheum Theatre

Internationally-renowned violinist Isabelle Faust performs Bartok’s scintillating Violin Concerto No. 2, on the extraordinary “Sleeping Beauty” Stradivarious violin, made in 1704. Beloved Conductor Laureate and former VSO Music Director Kazuyoshi Akiyama returns, conducting Dvorak’s Seventh Symphony and the overture of Mozart’s Opera, Don Giovanni.
The Jungle Book – Waterfront Theatre at Granville Island

A powerful coming-of-age tale. Deep in the Indian jungle, the human Mowgli is raised by wolves. I and I AM YOU – Finnish-born choreographer Jorma Elo’s 2011 debut with Ballet BC was met with thunderous applause.

Joyce Yang Plays Mozart – Orpheum Theatre

Virtuoso poet of the keyboard, JOyce Yang performs one of Mozart’s most important piano concertos, and one of his greatest works overall, a concerto that greatly influenced Beethoven and foreshadowed the Romantic ea of composition to come. Moz-Art a la Haydn is a smart, cheeky styling of Mozart’s lost pantomine music of 1783 – the a la Haydn part is a nod to Haydn’s Farewell Symphony, so don’t be surprised when musicians start leaving the stage as the piece comes to an end!

Nicola Benedetti and Dale Barltrop – Chan Centre for the Performing Arts

Outstanding VSO Concertmaster Dale Barltrop leads from the violin, in a concert that features one of the most exciting violinists on the concert scene today, Nicola Benedetti. Ms. Benedetti is an artist of astonishing depth and musicality, and constantly dazzles critics and audiences a like wherever she performs. You will hear Mozart’s most famous violini concert, and Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony, Rudolf Barshai’s arrangement of the composer’s String Quartet No. 3.

Maestro Bramwell Tovey conducts an all-Tchaikovsky program featuring the remarkable, powerful and emotional Pathetique Symphony, an ode of the power of fate, with its beautiful spine-tingling ending that fades away into a sublime nothingness.
