How is it November already?! Now that Thanksgiving and Halloween have come and gone, we’re all ramping up for winter socials and holiday parties. But before we get to that, there’s still lots of things to see and do in Vancouver during November.

VSO at the Movies: Raiders of the Lost Ark – Orpheum Theatre

The movie that started it all! The original Indiana Jones adventure, re-mastered and presented on the big screen at the Orpheum, with the orchestra playing the famous, award-winning score by John Williams live on stage.
100 Guitars – 100 Very Good Reasons Why… – Roundhouse Community Centre

The collaborative undertaking will bring together 100 amateur and professional electric guitar players, of varying ages and background.
Anna Federova – Vancouver Playhouse
Event date: November 6 | Time: 3pm
Anna Fedorova is one of the world’s premier young pianists. From an early age, she demonstrated an innate musical maturity and astounding technical abilities. Her international concert career took off while she was a child, and she has appeared in soem of the most prestigious concert halls of Europe, North and South America and Asia.
Lauryn Hill – Queen Elizabeth Theatre
Event date: November 8 | Time: 8pm
American singer, songwriter, rapper, record producer, and actress. She is best known for being a member of the Fugees and for her critically acclaimed solo album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, which won numerous awards, broke several sales records and was listed by Rolling Stone as one of the greatest albums of all time.
Got7 – Queen Elizabeth Theatre

South Korean boy group formed by JYP Entertainment in 2014. The group consists of seven members who hail from South Korea, Thailand, Hong Kong and the US.
War/Poet – 24th Remembrance Day Concert – St. Andrew’s Wesley United Church
Event date: November 11 | Time: 8pm
From Walt Whitman, Rupert Brooke, and Frances Ledwidge to the unnamed bards of folksongs, poets have forged their greatest works in the crucible of war. Chor Leoni focuses on this powerful poetry as expressed in musical setting by Gustav Holst, Stephen Smith, and Michael McGlynn in a beloved Remembrance Day tradition.

Bamboo: Vietnamese and Intercultural Fusions – The Annex on 823 Seymour St

The first large-scale concert of our 2016/17 season, will feature the 15-member VICO (Vancovuer Intercultural Orchestra) with virtuoso solo performers on Vietnamese traditional instruments.
V’ni Dansi – Scotiabank Dance Centre

V’ni Dansi preserves traditional Metis dance and also create innovative contemorary works: the company brings both these activities together in a special double bill for its annual Louis Riel Day Celebration.
Hidden: ITSAZOO – UBC Botanical Garden

ITSAZOO presents a bone-chilling site-specific horror event: Hidden. Blurring the lines between performance and reality, we will guide audiences of 13 people, armed only with flashlights, on the Lost Lovers Murder Tour – a frighteningly accurate re-enactment of the infamous and unsolved murders that occurred exactly 20 years ago, deep within the forest.
Sultans of the Street – Waterfront Theatre Granville Island

Four children from different worlds – two who want new kites and two with the simple wish to attend school – are trapped in a world of begging on the streets of Kolkata, India. Dressed as golds, they bless the generous and threaten to curse those who are not. Together, they must work to escape servitude and set a course for a new life. In association with the Diwali Fest.
A Night in Vienna CMS String Sextet – Vancouver Playhouse

For centuries, Vienna stood as the cultural epicentre of Europe, a rich melting pot of music, art, and literature; a city that always cherished tradition while pressing toward the artistic future. This program traces the evolution of musical expression in the city “city of dreams” through music by three of its greatest voices.

An interdisciplinary arts company made up of three emerging contemporary artists: Milton Lim, Remy Siu and Natalie Tin Yin Gan. The three met as students at SFU’s School for the Contemporary Arts and have been consistently creating and producing work since 2011 when the company was formed. Hong Kong Exile is committed to creating vital and innovative art through collaboartive, interdisciplinary investigation.
Verdi’s Requiem – Orpheum Theatre

Maestro Tovey conducts one of the greatest and most important choral works in the repertoire, Verdi’s Requiem. The performance of this thrilling, almost operatic masterwork will feature the massed voices of the UBC University Singers an Choral Union, and four outstanding vocal soloists.

Brian Scolaro – The Comedy Mixx

Maude is on the wrong side of fifty, totally broke and living in a trailer park in Bakersfield, California. The response blends contemporary dance techniques with the physicality and attitude of urban culture. Candytown -Yaletown

Downtown Vancouver’s only free winter festival will transform Mainland Street into a winter wonderland. Lights and candy canes will adorn lamp poles and costumed characters will parade down the street. Holiday shoppers are invited to start their seasonal gift buying in Yaletown with local merchants as well as a specialty market carrying unique gifts and holiday treats. You’ll also find Mainland Street filled with local artisans, street performers and live music.

Highly regarded young Australian pianist Alexey Yemtsov makes his VSO debut, performing one of the all-time favourites for piano and orchestra, Rachmaninoff’s towering Piano Concerto No. 3.
